Deadpool, aka: “The Merc with a Mouth,” has become a famous character worldwide since Ryan Reynolds played him in the 2016 movie Deadpool.
For those who love the foul-mouthed hero, there’s exciting news: On May 3, 2024, Deadpool 3 will be released internationally. But do you know, “Is Deadpool Marvel or DC?” Now we’re going to answer!
Is Deadpool Marvel or DC?
Is Deadpool DC? NO!
Is Deadpool Marvel? YES!
Deadpool is a character from Marvel Comics, not DC.
Artist/writer Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza created Deadpool. And Deadpool debuted in February 1991’s The New Mutants #98. His irreverent, fourth-wall-breaking sense of humor, his complex and sometimes tragic backstory, and his interactions with other Marvel characters all reflect the storytelling style that Marvel is known for.
However, it’s no secret he was based on a DC character, which is where some fans get the two confused. And they even have names that sound a lot alike. Wade Wilson is the real name of Deadpool, and Slade Wilson is the real name of Deathstroke. Marvel didn’t even try to hide that one. This character was meant to be fun of and then be killed off, but it was overwhelmingly popular for a guy who was a villain and meant to be hated.
That’s not all, though. The two characters also wear clothes that look a lot alike and fight in ways that aren’t too different from one another.
But Deathstroke hasn’t done well in movies, unlike Deadpool, which has been a huge hit for Marvel. Deadpool and Deadpool 2 made almost $800 million at the box office. It was a huge accomplishment, given that the first movie only cost $58 million.
Marvel VS. DC
What’s the difference between DC and Marvel? Now might be the time to ask this question if you’re new to superheroes. And if you’re a hardcore fan, you probably know how to answer it.
Marvel Comics and DC are both comic book publishers whose stories feature well-known superheroes. In recent years, many of these characters have been turned into movies, TV shows, and video games.

Since then, Marvel’s characters have appeared in the successful film series, The Marvel Cinematic Universe. | National Allied Publications started DC Comics in 1934, making it one of the biggest and oldest American comic book companies. In 1969, Warner Bros. bought DC. Since then, DC’s characters have starred in many successful films, TV shows, video games, and more. |
Famous Characters | Deadpool, Spider-Man, Iron Man, the X-Men, the Hulk, Thor, Captain America, the Avengers, and the Black Panther, among others. | Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, the Justice League, etc. |

Well, both of them have contributed immensely to the comic book industry and continue to entertain fans with their stories and characters.
Marvel Studios’ Deadpool
Deadpool 3 will be Marvel Studios’ first movie, with Wade Wilson in the lead role. Twenty-First Century Fox made the first two movies because they owned film rights to the character at the time.
Disney bought 20th Century Fox in 2019, which means that Marvel Studios now has the rights to Deadpool again. Many fans are excited to see how Deadpool will fit into the MCU.
Fans of Deadpool were worried that if Disney bought the character, future movies might not be funny to adults.
However, fans need not worry:
Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, stated that “Deadpool 3” will be rated R, just like the other movies in the series. It will be the first film in the MCU to be rated R. In other words, the movie will have the same mature humor and bloodshed that the series is known for.
And Deadpool 3 will be “audacious, gritty, hilarious, and gnarly,” according to director Shawn Levy.
We can now sit back, take it easy, and enjoy the wait, knowing that Marvel will do the character right when the movie finally comes out. With Marvel Studios working on it, the movie will be another entertaining entry in the Deadpool series and the MCU.
